This practical supplement to the primer describes the latest individual components for feed drives, such as motors and converters, as well as mechanical transmission elements. Using example calculations, the authors explain many topics - ranging from the influence of certain variables to precision of the workpiece. They also describe in detail the requirements and possibilities for the widely disseminated gear spindle drive, including the way the former relate to high-speed machining. Practical examples are calculated for rack-and-pinion drives for longer travel paths and linear toothed belt drives for robotics and simple positioning tasks. The book includes a discussion of the increasing significance of electric linear motors for feed drives and their characteristic features. A practical approach develops in particular through the description of the methods for the stationary dimensioning of drives and results from measurements made on this basis.
